Mum, affectionately known as AhMa, was born in Penang, Malaysia, but by her teens, was already starting her incredible journey.
Sent to Melbourne to complete school, she completed her PhD in comparative Zoology and, with dad, decided to stay.
Not only did Chunnie, Wei and Jen have a fierce loyal mother, Mum looked after her siblings as they came to Melbourne.
She warmly welcomed Stephen, Jenny and Monika and then cooked for her grandchildren, Ethan, Olivia, Lauren, James, Christian, Stephanie.
Proud, feisty, loyal to the end.
The Funeral Service to Celebrate the Life of Kar Siew Ch'ng

on MONDAY MAY 4th, 2026

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been a close friend of Dr Kar Siew Ch’ng and indeed her whole family. My late husband and I met Kar Hong and Siew in the late sixties when dinner parties were all the rage. We danced, laughed and loved our way through life in our new homes in Glen Waverley with much used swimming pools and our babies. Family was so important to Siew. She was stunningly beautiful, super intelligent, enormous fun and so generous of spirit. I well remember the occasions on which she came to the school at which I taught to tell my girls about the way of life for her grandmother and her mother in comparison to her own.
