When I speak to my friends about you, I refer to you as my father’s best friend’s mother.

Some of them have heard stories about how you were like a second mother to him, and a grandmother to me. Fewer have heard stories about how you might have saved my mother’s life. Not enough have heard stories about how cool you were; about how when we met you were flanked by giant dogs, smoking cigarettes and playing the original super mario bros.

It’s not just about what you’ve done for me, but also how great you were to talk to, about your wisdom and your love.
You, and your family shaped many of the ideas I hold about how close friendships are indistinguishable from family.

I know better than most, that no amount of time on this earth is assured for anyone. And given how much of it you have given my family and I, I have to accept your passing with gratitude and grace.

Still, I wish we had taken more photos together.
    Rest in power.

I am deeply saddened with the loss of my mother in law. I knew Mummy for 40 years of my marriage. My mother in law is the best Mother in law in the world! Everyone should have a Mother in law like her!
When we were young, we lost our Mother. Later, when I got married, not only I did get my husband, but also a Mother for our whole family of six siblings.
    May She Rest In Peace!

My deepest condolences to uncle Johann , uncle Mark and Auntie Andrea …

I am Judy Sam , one of the grand daughters of your dear uncle Elian Joseph Mendis. I have only met achchi Milsie Once in my life . A very brief encounter but a very memorable one .I still have that memory engraved in my mind. From there only I became enthusiastic about this elegant and independent lady . From that moment I became hugely interested about her. Believe or not it was while crossing the road with my lovely granny, Mary Antoinette Mendis née Mahagamage . Your mom’s Eldest sister-in-law. My grandma was my inspiration in my life and she was a very big fan and admirer of your mom. She was the source I had , to know this beautiful, high spirited and awesome mom of yours . My grandma was a big fan and always loved and admired the courage your mom had ! She always said, she haven’t seen a free spirit like her and always cherished and praised her . Her well cultured manners, her thoughts and values about the importance of education & her ability to compromise her life situations and difficulties she faced with grace . She was a very stylish lady according to my grandma and after watching the beautiful Memorial ceremony it Was so true !

To me , with the stories I have heard from my grandma about Achchi Milsie made me realize she was an inspirational and a very independent lady . Fought her battles with grace .

Witnessing the beautiful memorial service made it so evident how loved and blessed she was ! Like you all were lucky to have her in your lives, I feel she must definitely feel the same .

May God Bless her soul and May God Bless you all.
Sending prayers and love all the way from Sri Lanka.

Rita Mendis (your cousin) , Shane , Shawn and Judy ( Rita’s daughter) .
